USGBC Central Coast Green Building Council
Board Member Application information

We are the go-to resource in California's TriCounty to:

  • Support sustainable building efforts
  • Advocate for more green building codes and policies
  • Create, host and share trainings and events, support green schools programs,
  • Celebrate top-notch projects and individuals pushing the limits of sustainability
  • Cultivate an expansive, vibrant, and active green building community
  • Support workforce development in order to improve conditions for both new and long-term frontline workers
  • Prepare students and those in career transition with the skills necessary to enter the green workforce. 
  • Support each other in truly creating healthier, environmentally-conscious buildings and spaces.

CCGBC Board Member General Overview

Time Commitment: This is a volunteer-based board. We ask for ~10 hours/month.

Membership: Maintain an active paid CCGBC membership (If this is an issue, we can support you in sponsorship)

Strategic Partnerships: Willingness to activate personal network to benefit CCGBC, participate in forming collaborations with other like-minded organizations to further Chapter initiatives, participate in fostering sponsorship and individual donor opportunities.

Expertise: Bring expertise that can further the organization’s mission and impact

Meetings: Attend monthly board meetings (virtual), plus 1 annual in-person leadership retreat. Participate in committee meetings to whichever committees you are committed to.

Represent the Chapter: Participating at local and regional events, including giving tours of our BuildSMART trailer, helping set up for events, showing up and being an active participant in the events CCGBC hosts and co-hosts.

Term: Two years

Create Opportunities For You

Stand for a Cause: We advocate with, educate, and resource those designing and building sustainable places and spaces. We recognize that everyone is impacted by the built environment, including the natural environment.  Feed your need to effectively make a positive impact.

 Participate in Meaningful Activism: Your participation of the mission of the CCGBC means advancing the whole industry forward and fundamentally adapting the definition of what makes a sustainable built environment.

Collaborate with Your Community: You step into a variety of opportunities to collaborate members of the green building community through collaborating on local, city, state, and even national events. You will most certainly meet new inspiring folks and co-create with them!

Open New Career Doors: Within the CCGBC we collaborate with a wide range of people, organizations, and companies across the entire building related industry and beyond. Your network and experience can vastly expand, allowing for new and different job opportunities to arise.

Board Position Descriptions

Current open positions beginning in January include:

General Board Director Position: Board Member Directors add their valuable insight as voting members. Their role includes the Board Member Responsibilities (see below) and any other committee or general area of interest they choose to put their efforts towards within the CCGBC.  This is a 2-year commitment for the term on the board.

    CCGBC Elections Process

    As a collective, the CCGBC board supports each other in creating healthier, environmentally-conscious buildings and communities.  We enthusiastically welcome people of any race, gender, orientation, religion, ethnicity, physical ability, economic status, and political preference to apply. CCGBC Board Members should be based in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, or Ventura counties, as these are the three regions that our local USGBC Chapter covers. 

    Please fill out the application by January 17th, 2024 to be considered as a new board member for a two-year term, starting in February of 2024. Please make your best effort to be available for our in-person board meeting on Saturday, January 20th from 9am-5pm.
